All new Amazon devices that are Alexa enabled come with Alexa+. Alexa+ is an AI assistant that helps you complete your requests more efficiently whilst at the same time being more conversational.
Alexa+ is free to Prime members, but non-prime members can gain access for $19.99 per month in the US / £19.99 per month in the UK. It is currently (Sept 2026) available to all customers in the US and Canada, and is being rolled out to customers in Brazil, the UK, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria and France.
Prime members can start using Alexa+ by saying, “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+” on their Alexa-enabled device or by logging into their Amazon account at Alexa.com. For customers without a Prime membership, try Alexa+ through a new free chat experience at Alexa.com and in the Alexa app.
With Alexa+ you just have to say Alexa once and as long as the blue light bar is showing on your device, the conversation will keep flowing.
With Alexa+, you can have free-flowing conversations about nearly any topic. Just say “Alexa” once, and as long as you see the blue light bar on your device, you can keep the conversation flowing. Alexa will also keep up with your train of thought, jumping from one idea to the next without missing a beat.
What used to take a number of individual separate requests to Alexa, can now be carried out as part of a more natural conversation.
In terms of its knowledge base, this is now extensive and Alexa can answer your questions about a much larger range of topics and like other AI programmes, you can ask it to summarise documents etc and/or question it about information contained in it.
Amazon state that Alexa+ responds accordingly based on your mood and that she understands when you express excitement, sarcasm, and criticism, and can respond with emotional intelligence. You can test this out for yourself at Alexa.com.
There is a new visual feature that come with Alexa+ – “Alexicons”. These are expressive animations that appear on the blue light bar as you chat.
There are a number of features that I especially like. My favorite is its ability to track the price of items in my cart and when they hit my desired price, it will let me know. If you wish you can have it complete the purchase for you!
